New Zealand Looks to Recruit More Teachers Abroad

The post-election uncertainty in South Africa has led to many more people looking abroad for a new place to settle. Australia and New Zealand have long been favorite destinations for South Africans, but the entry requirements can be quite forbidding. A recent change in government policy in New Zealand has opened the way for South Africans who have a certain skill set and are looking to immigrate to New Zealand.
New Zealand Opens Its Doors to Educators
New Zealand’s Education Minister, Erica Stanford, recently made a pre-budget announcement in which she said that her ministry would be looking to recruit 1500 new teachers in the next four years.
“We are being proactive in addressing the forecast future need for teachers, with recent estimates showing up to 680 more secondary teachers could be needed within the next three years,” Stanford said. “Today’s investment in training, recruitment, and development will help us to meet that demand by growing the domestic and overseas pipeline of teachers.”
That “overseas pipeline” opens up a fantastic opportunity for South African teachers who are interested in New Zealand immigration. The New Zealand government is set to support 300 teachers from other countries through Overseas Relocation Grants. It will also support schools who wish to recruit teachers from other countries, through a total of 425 Overseas Finders Fees packages.
