The Skill Shortages Continue to Increase

According to the government, the list of skills shortages in Australia has increased by up to 31% across a range of occupations. The following occupations require workers urgently:

• Hotel manager
• Hairdresser
• Chemical engineer
• Primary school teacher
• Secondary school teacher
• Dentist
• Pediatrician
• Neurosurgeon
• Blacksmith
• Butcher
• Web developer

As a result of the desperate need for workers, the Australian government negotiated a deal with neighbouring states to secure funding for skilled workers for the next five years. As part of the agreement, the government has implemented 120,000 fee-free TAFE and vocational education and training (VET) places in 2023. The training will provide more opportunities for young Australians, people out of work, people with disabilities, and certain categories of visa holders who previously had to complete years of education to work in Australia.
